Essay 17: Year of the Gentlemen and the Ladies:

An Essay About Gentlemen and Ladies

Sometimes he never says anything, standing there for us to realize what we have done, waiting for us to fix our mistake, looking upon us to see if we have understood our lesson and making us understand that not everything is a bad mistake.

This sentence shows that long sentences can be as strong as short sentences. This 30 + loose sentence is describing my grandpa, and I think that this is more interesting than a few short, dull words.

Essay 20: “We Are Family”:

An Essay About My Family

A family should always support you through the ups and downs, holding your hand when you are sinking, comforting you when you have made a mistake, standing by you when you are in great despair, which is exactly what the characters do in To Kill a Mockingbird and Romeo and Juliet.

I chose this sentence because it is one of my finest examples of a loose sentence. The sentence flows gracefully, and I think that I used good participles.

Essay 21: Forever and Always:

A Multigenre Essay on Friendships

The car was gone, and it hit me square in the face; I realized that this would be the last long run of an inconceivable, memorable friendship that will never be forgotten.

This is one of my top sentences from the 2009-2010 school year because of its meaning. When a friendship ends, you will do anything to stop it, but once you realize that the friendship is gone, I think that this sentence describes every meaning that comes to mind.

Essay 19: "Happy":

An Essay About the Song “Happy” By Leona Lewis

She is saying that if you “take chances you might feel the pain,” but you learn how to move on.

I like this sentence because of the quote; it is the “main body” of the sentence, and it shows how a quote can enhance a piece of writing.

Essay 23: This I Believe:

An Essay on My Beliefs

In this case, hope- hope that the sunlight will come back and wake you up so you realize that there is always an escape route.

I chose this sentence because I liked how I repeated the word hope. The repetition makes this sentence clearer, and it also shows which theme I am talking about.

Essay 16: Lost in Time:

An Essay Using Multigenres to Talk About the Theme Forgotten

I forget about the peace that was once on this Earth, I forget about everyone I have met, and I forget what it is to be a human.

This sentence not only shows one of my best examples of tricolon, but it also has a good moral behind it. Although we do not know what soldiers are going through today, this small sentence describes my thoughts on what is happening overseas.

7. 03-26-10

Essay 18: Forgive Me:

An Essay About Forgiveness

I was exasperated, but I forgave my mom, which was one my wisest decisions because I am living life to the fullest here.

To me the highlight of this sentence is the thesaurus word. The word “exasperated” not only means to be upset, but it also makes the sentence flow more smoothly.

Essay 10: The Rooster and The Lake:

An Essay About the Metaphors in To Kill a Mockingbird And My Life

[My brain] is constantly being filled up every second; furthermore, every question is like taking a breath to go deeper into the bottomless lake and knowing that there is no bottom but just blue water. By the time I figure out that most of the questions are never going to be answered, my time will be over, and I will have reached the bottom of the bottomless lake.

These two sentences explain why I am comparing myself to a bottomless lake. The metaphor is described in a few sentences, but the sentences have grace, and a message which makes this sentence more interesting.

Essay 7: Forever Fear:

An Essay on My Fears

Every feeling, every thought I have are numbed away by this little creature.

Although this sentence is short, it is one of my favorite piece of writing because of the adjective used and because of the little repetition of the word “every”. The adjective deeply describes my feelings when I see a spider, and the small repetition ‘spices up’ the sentence.

Essay 13: “Cords Of Strength”:

An Essay About the Strength Throughout To Kill a Mockingbird and My Life

When a man, so skinny that you could see his bone, crying for hope and help, had lost four family members and was searching for others, it made me realize that every survivor searching for loved ones has his or her own strength (periodic sentence).

I chose this sentence not only because it talked about the Haiti Earthquake but because it is one of my best periodic sentence of the whole year. The part when I explain the man enhances the sentence and makes it more interesting.
